An election cybersecurity initiative by the office of the Secretary of State is one of three finalists for the National Association of Secretaries of State’s 2019 IDEAS Award, Secretary of State Paul Pate announced this week. The initiative organized a collaboration between auditors and information technology staff of all 99 Iowa counties, several state agencies and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to build an election firewall. “First-in-the-Nation in voting demands first in the nation security. That requires a team effort,” Secretary Pate said. “I’m proud of the work my team put into this mission and that it’s being recognized by my fellow Secretaries of State.”
