MākuSafe, a West Des Moines-based wearable technology company, was named the 2019 ACORD InsurTech Innovation Challenge winner in Boston, taking home a $15,000 cash prize, a membership to the Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development (ACORD) and distribution of a white paper through the association.

MākuSafe competed against three regional Insurtech Innovation Challenge winners in the final ACORD Connect event after being named the Chicago regional winner in June.

MākuSafe developed a two-piece wearable hardware armband that gathers environmental data, such as location and motion speed, to auto-record near-miss accident indicators in industrial facilities. Through the MākuSmart cloud platform, businesses can identify and address workplace risks before it leads to employee injury.

The MākuSafe system is now operating in six states, said CEO and co-founder Gabriel Glynn.

“This is such an incredible honor and a testament to the hard work of our team,” Glynn said. “The prize money and additional exposure provided by ACORD will go a long way in accelerating our growth into 2020.”
