Des Moines Area Community College Boone campus student Axl Escarcega, a first-year pre-engineering student originally from Imperial, Calif., has been accepted to join the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) program, DMACC announced this week. Escarcega joins three recent DMACC students and graduates with ties to NASA’s student initiatives. Noah Gleason of Granger was admitted to the NCAS program in 2020; Mehmet Sefer of Ames was chosen as a 2020-2021 NASA Lucy Student Pipeline Accelerator and Competency Enabler – Lucy Ambassador last year; and Pedro Jose Salazar Garcia of Des Moines has been involved in five recent NASA projects as an undergraduate at DMACC and Iowa State University.
