Gov. Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Education announced Wednesday more than $500,000 in awards from the Computer Science Professional Development Incentive Fund to train K-12 teachers in public and private schools to teach computer science. The fund was established in 2017 to pay for teachers’ training to teach specific computer science courses or earning university endorsements to teach computer science, according to a release. The fund is awarding 21 awards for 2021-22 to 136 school districts, private schools and Area Education Agencies that submitted proposals to serve multiple schools. According to the release, training that prepares educators to teach computer science in the next six to 12 months is a priority.
