The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently opened a window for qualifying entities to seek grants for technical assistance for broadband projects. A total of $20 million has been allocated to these grants, which will deliver broadband technical assistance and training and support the development and expansion of broadband cooperatives, according to the department. Eligible applicants include state or local governments, higher education institutions, 501(c)(3) nonprofits, cooperatives and corporations. The location of the project must be a rural area, defined as communities of less than 20,000 in population and not adjacent to an urban area of 50,000 population or higher. Applications are due by June 20. More information is available on the USDA’s website.
