Waterloo Fiber Internet, the city’s new, locally owned and operated municipal fiber internet utility, has announced that Eric Lage has been appointed as the first general manager of telecommunications for the utility. Lage served as general manager of Reinbeck Telecommunications Utility for nine years. The city of Waterloo and Waterloo Fiber Internet are working on a joint project to construct a $77 million fiber internet system, bringing high-speed fiber internet to Waterloo residents and businesses. The Waterloo Fiber Internet board approved awarding a bid for the construction of the system to Tennessee-based ITG Communications on July 5. Construction is planned to start this summer, according to a news release.
