Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska has joined the Global Insurance Accelerator (GIA) as an investor in its upcoming 2025 program. It is the first health insurance company to partner with the organization, according to a news release. Through this relationship, the health insurer will gain early access to new insurance technology solutions while supporting participating startups through industry expertise, mentorship and potential collaboration opportunities. Dan Israel, the GIA’s managing director, said, “Over the past 11 years, the GIA has worked to build up the most unique ecosystem in InsurTech innovation. Adding BCBSNE as our first health insurer investor ensures we continue to lead in early-stage innovation, and we look forward to seeing health-based startups apply.” Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska is led by Jeff Russell, former president and CEO of Delta Dental of Iowa.
