The city of Iowa City has launched a new grant program opportunity for Iowa City-based small business owners and entrepreneurs who fall under the Targeted Small Business definition. 

The Targeted Small Business Development Grant Program will provide up to $5,000 in grant funding as well as business coaching and technical assistance services designed to address barriers to business growth and development, a news release said. Applicants must be certified or eligible to become certified for Iowa’s Targeted Small Business program. To be eligible for the program, businesses must be: 

  • Located in Iowa.
  • Operating for a profit.
  • Majority owned (51% or more), operated and managed by a female, individual with minority status, service-disabled veteran, or individual with a disability.
  • Make less than $4 million in gross income, computed as an average of the preceding three fiscal years.
