Stewart Carter to lead engineering at UNI

The University of Northern Iowa has announced that Stewart Carter will serve as the chief applied engineering administrator for the university’s newly established department of applied engineering. Before joining UNI, Carter worked for John Deere for more than 30 years in engineering and manager roles. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Southern University A&M and graduated from UNI’s MBA program. “The field of engineering has continued to grow over the last decade and is expected to grow at an even faster pace in the future,” Carter said in a prepared statement. “With the addition of the Applied Engineering department, UNI is now well positioned to be a part of this growth. … My vision is to leverage the success the program has had in the past, while charting a future that ensures the majors offered at UNI are relevant with industry requirements, both today and in the future.” UNI’s engineering-focused degrees include automation, electrical, manufacturing and mechanical. The programs are housed in the new Applied Engineering Building, which will have the “most modern metal casting foundry” in the country, according to a news release. UNI also operates the Foundry 4.0 Center at the TechWorks Campus in Waterloo, where new technologies are tested for feasibility in the foundry industry.
