Clayton Farms, an urban farming company, is partnering with Ames High School to bring urban farming curriculum and technology to the classroom. In a new course offered at Ames High School, students will learn about “sustainable food systems, supply chain, and everything that goes into urban farming,” said Clayton Mooney, co-founder and chief farmer of Clayton Farms, in a news release. They will also have the opportunity to “use indoor farming as a way to help meet the needs of hungry families and to reconstruct our local ecosystems with native plants,” said Mike Todd, Ames High School science teacher, in a news release. After the course ends, Ames-based nonprofit the Community Academy will work with K-12 students on the project over the summer with the Reiman Gardens’ Grow and Give program.
