BrokerTech Ventures, a broker-led convening platform, recently hosted the nine insurtech startups participating in the organization’s sixth accelerator program for a two-day event in Des Moines.
The event, called BTV Mania, brought the startups together to meet BTV’s 25 broker and insurance company partners at Holmes Murphy’s Waukee headquarters.
The startups selected for the 2025 accelerator cohort are:
- Adaptional – An automated back office for insurance brokerages with manual data and operations processes.
- Eventual Treasury – Brokers’ revenue operations tool using carrier statement processing, revenue auto-reconciliation, recovery and intelligence.
- Fulcrum – Secure AI-powered products for insurance brokerages.
- FurtherAI – Building AI assistants to automate repetitive insurance workflows.
- LightDoc – Provides ways to compare and verify insurance policies.
- RiskAdvisor – Simplifying data use and guiding conversations.
- SquareRisk Inc. – A one-stop shop for retail brokers to discover, quote and bind specialty managing general agent products.
- Stitch Studio – Enabling insurers, brokers and agencies to embed AI agents into their workflows while maintaining control of their data.
- When – Provides tools and support to former employees during a job transition.
During the event, the startups met with BTV’s partners to discuss partnerships designed to advance their offering and accelerate their progress. As part of the accelerator program, the startups also receive $50,000 in seed funding and gain access to BTV’s distribution platform to deploy the technologies, according to a news release.
“We’re seeing a lot of AI companies, but they’re tackling it from different angles,” said John Jackovin, executive director of the BTV Accelerator.
For example, certain startups are looking at artificial intelligence from a process improvement perspective, he said. Others are looking at AI as a way to “connect different systems together that maybe have never talked before,” he said. One startup created an AI agent that can answer phone calls and pull information from databases to help with customer service.
Of the companies that met with the startups, a handful are from Iowa. Those are Holmes Murphy, EMC Insurance Cos. and Delta Dental of Iowa, Jackovin said.
“We have all these companies that are looking for cutting-edge technologies that will improve their organizations and their business,” Jackovin said. “And then you have these startups who are looking for traction and distribution and people to use and buy their products, and so … a really symbiotic relationship can occur.”
In addition to announcing the new accelerator cohort, BTV announced BrokerTech Connect: Chicago, a new invitation-only conference focused on the broker, carrier and wholesale sectors of the insurance industry. The conference is set for August.
