Des Moines native creates app that helps aviation enthusiasts take flight

A Des Moines native has developed a new mobile app, Lima Flight, that aims to connect flight students, flight schools, instructors and pilots on a user platform. Lima Flight’s concept of connecting aviation was developed by certified flight instructor Jess Ellwanger, 28, after he envisioned an easier way for students to find instructors or flight schools and for instructors and flight schools to be found by potential students. The app features a directory of certified flight instructors, which includes their backgrounds, certifications, specialties, geographic location and contact information that students and pilots seeking additional ratings or recertification can search based upon one or more of these characteristics. Ellwanger, an Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University graduate, is currently based in southern Utah. While Lima Flight is free, it will eventually charge a small monthly subscription fee to be included in the CFI/flight school directory which will expand the ability to personalize listings and keep the directory current. The app is now available to download in app stores.
