Days after majority plant owner NextEra Energy and customer Alliant Energy announced the early closure of the Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC), the plant’s largest minority owner said that despite concerns, it shared “guarded optimism” that the closure will be positive for the state, reports the Corridor Business Journal. Leaders of Central Iowa Power Co-op (CIPCO), distributor and 20 percent owner of the plant, said in a statement that CIPCO has concerns about the upfront financial burden the early closure in 2020 will have on co-op members, and that payments on debt used to upgrade facility safety will be paid long after the plant closes.
