The Federal Communications Commission awarded more than $143 million to 11 broadband providers as part of a national initiative to bring broadband to 10 million Americans, the FCC announced Friday. The Rural Digital Opportunity Fund awarded 11 broadband providers grants ranging from $8,586 to $112,637,885 to deliver speeds of 100 megabits-per-second download in rural Iowa. The state designated $50 million in CARES Act funds to broadband projects in Iowa earlier this year, in addition to ongoing Empower Rural Iowa broadband grants, the office of Gov. Kim Reynolds said in a statement.
