Iowa State University and Alliant will work together on a new solar farm following approval from the Board of Regents. The solar farm will be located on university land south of Ames that is currently managed by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and Alliant Energy will design, build, own, operate and maintain the farm. The project will help both partners reach sustainability goals, including Alliant’s aim to eliminate all coal from its generation fleet by 2040. Iowa State will receive renewable energy credits generated by the solar farm, which will off-set a portion of the university’s annual carbon emissions. The energy produced by the farm could power up to 230 homes as well as nearby teaching and research farms. Construction is expected to begin later in 2022 or in 2023. Learn more
