Verbio’s biorefinery facility in Nevada, Iowa, has started commercial production of corn-based ethanol, Verbio North America announced recently. Verbio Nevada, which opened in 2021, can now operate as a full biorefinery with a total capacity to produce 60 million gallons of corn-based ethanol per year and 2.3 million mmBTU of renewable natural gas, according to a news release. The plant is the first industrial-scale North American plant making both ethanol and renewable natural gas, the company said in a news release. The additions at the plant added nearly 50 full-time jobs. Greg Faith, Verbio Nevada plant president and general manager, said Verbio aims to provide new revenue streams for local growers by purchasing their feedstock and corn for ethanol and renewable natural gas production. Verbio North America is the U.S. subsidiary of German bioenergy producer Verbio SE.
