Greater Iowa City Inc. has opened a new grant opportunity designed to fund rural community branding and deliverables. This initiative aims to enhance the visual identity and cohesion of local communities through strategic branding projects. Any rural towns or districts in Johnson County are eligible to receive up to $5,000. The grant opportunity has two categories communities can apply for. The first category may include the creation of logos, brand guidelines and other visual identity elements, and the second is a matching funds grant and includes funds specifically for deliverables, which could include downtown wayfinding signage, banners and murals. “Branding plays a crucial role in rural communities by fostering a strong sense of identity and civic pride among residents,” Sarah Thompson, Greater IC director of rural development, said in a prepared statement. “It strategically highlights the unique strengths of a community, making it more attractive to visitors, potential residents, and new businesses.” Interested communities must submit an application detailing their proposed projects and form a temporary committee of at least three community representatives, including at least one city employee or elected official.
