Two SBDC Iowa regional directors, Michael Wampler and Jenica Johnson, have received awards from the national Small Business Development Center association America’s SBDC. Wampler, regional director of the SBDC location at Kirkwood Community College, is a recipient of the Top 40 Under 40 Young Professionals Award. The award recognizes SBDC staff who demonstrate innovation, leadership and commitment to the SBDC mission. “Michael exemplifies what it means to be a small-business advocate,” said Lisa Shimkat, SBDC Iowa state director, in a news release. “His exceptional contributions to the Iowa SBDC and small-business community have greatly empowered entrepreneurs, providing them with the resources, guidance and support needed to thrive and achieve their full potential.” Jenica Johnson, regional director of the Mid Iowa SBDC in Des Moines, was named the 2024 Iowa State Star, which recognizes exemplary work performance, significant contributions to the SBDC’s economic development efforts and a strong commitment to small businesses. “Whether crafting tactical approaches to challenges or rolling up her sleeves to address urgent needs, Jenica consistently delivers solutions that elevate both our network and the businesses we serve,” Shimkat said in a prepared statement. “Her ability to seamlessly transition from high-level strategy to on-the-ground support showcases her versatility and deep commitment to her clients.
